CIGB responds to the economic life of Birmingham and Solihull in three broad ways
-
providing workplace chaplains to a wide range of organisations
-
working on a key economic issues
-
helping churches to support and resource employed Christians
In 2007 our chaplaincy provision continued to grow. We also worked on issues surrounding migrant workers, resulting in the ‘Here to stay?’ event and booklet [See News & events]. You can read about our work in detail in the 2007/08 Annual Report

Why chaplaincy – for business
Organisations which care for their staff and which have clear corporate values are organisations that thrive.
Chaplains can play a key role in these areas by - offering informal pastoral support to staff, complementing any other provision; developing an understanding of the business and so understanding the pressures people face; assisting with diversity issues; contributing to discussions on values and culture.
The very presence of a chaplain indicates that a company cares about its people and about its values.
Projects & current developments
Exploring Climate Change – Climate change is going to effect all our futures and how we organise our economy is going to be key to meeting the challenge. Climate change will alterhow we work and how we consume. CIGB will be exploring this area over the next year. Other elements of the church are working on awareness of this issue.
Birmingham City Centre – Following Revd. Alison Maddocks move to Nottingham, the management group has continued to work to develop chaplaincy to retail in Birmingham City Centre. Eight volunteers completed the ‘Introduction to chaplaincy’ course and soon we hope to have six chaplains working in the city centre. Meanwhile, preparations are being made to re- appoint to the full time post, to provide leadership and development.
Solihull Town Centre –
The Solihull Town Centre team has produced a video of their
work, aimed at retailers and faith communities. The 12 minute
video gives an insight into the retail environment of Solihull
and explains the value of the chaplains work. Members of
the team are happy to share the video with business and
faith groups. A copy is also available on loan from the
CIGB office.
